2024 Formula 1 Season Start Times Revealed: Las Vegas Grand Prix Maintains 10 PM Slot Amidst Complaints
24-Round Season Schedule Unveiled with Las Vegas Grand Prix Facing Criticism Over Timing
The start times for the highly anticipated 2024 Formula 1 season have been disclosed, featuring a record-breaking 24 rounds, an increase of two from the previous year. The schedule includes the return of the races in China and at Imola, bringing the Shanghai International Circuit back into the F1 calendar after a hiatus since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite the absence of China and Imola in the previous season, the overall schedule remains unchanged for the 22 rounds from last year, with the Miami Grand Prix being the exception, receiving a 30-minute earlier start time. The Las Vegas Grand Prix, which faced complaints over its 10 PM slot in the previous year, retains the same timing, contributing to a triple header with Qatar and Abu Dhabi to conclude the 2024 campaign.
While the start times for the six Sprint races and the practice and qualifying sessions for Las Vegas are yet to be confirmed, the schedule provides an exciting lineup for F1 enthusiasts.
The return of F1 to Las Vegas last November marked a 41-year gap, but the event faced challenges during its debut, with the first practice session being abandoned due to a loose water valve cover. The delayed session prompted criticisms and discussions about potential improvements for the upcoming season.
Mercedes Technical Director James Allison disclosed ongoing discussions between F1 and the FIA to introduce a race cap for personnel, indicating an awareness of the need for operational enhancements to ensure smoother race weekends.
As the countdown to the 2024 Formula 1 season begins, the disclosed schedule sets the stage for a thrilling and action-packed series of races, with fans eagerly awaiting the start of the championship.
