High-Performance Electric SUV Unveiled at Tokyo Auto Show

Nissan has lifted the curtain on the Ariya Nismo, a high-performance variant of its flagship electric vehicle (EV), showcased at the Tokyo Auto Show. Based on the Ariya e-4ORCE version, the Nismo model is set to debut in Japan this spring, introducing a sportier and more powerful iteration of Nissan’s electric flagship.

The Ariya Nismo undergoes striking visual enhancements, prominently featured in its front and rear redesign. At the front, Nissan introduces a more aggressive-looking bumper with an extended splitter adorned with a distinctive red accent. The rocker panels receive similar treatment, incorporating a red strip that extends to the wing mirrors. The rear boasts a pronounced roof spoiler, a lip spoiler on the tailgate, and a new gloss black bumper with a red accent, culminating in a distinct and dynamic aesthetic. Complementing these changes are bespoke 20-inch aluminum wheels, adding to the overall sporty appeal.

In Japan, the Ariya Nismo will be available in two versions. The base Nismo B6 e-4ORCE delivers 270 kW (362 hp) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) through its dual electric motors, powered by a 66 kWh battery pack. Weighing 2,080 kg (4,585 lbs), this version offers an engaging driving experience. For enthusiasts seeking more, the Nismo B9 e-4ORCE comes with a 91 kWh battery, delivering 320 kW (429 hp) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft). With weight ranging from 2,210 kg (4,872 lbs) to 2,220 kg (4,894 lbs) depending on specifications, it promises a more exhilarating performance.

While specific performance figures are yet to be disclosed, Nissan emphasizes an exclusive Nismo driving mode that maximizes responsiveness, coupled with a Formula E race car-inspired soundtrack. The Ariya Nismo is also touted to exhibit superior cornering capabilities compared to its counterparts.

Inside the cabin, the Nismo treatment extends to branded seats, red accents on the center console and dashboard, red contrast stitching, and a Nismo logo on the dashboard, providing a sporty and immersive interior experience. As Nissan continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility, the Ariya Nismo stands out as a compelling blend of performance and style in the evolving landscape of electric SUVs.
