Stellantis Introduces “Virtual Cockpit” Technology for Accelerated Infotainment Development
Collaboration with BlackBerry’s QNX Hypervisor and Amazon Web Services Enhances Design and Evaluation Processes
Stellantis has unveiled a groundbreaking tool named “virtual cockpit,” designed to accelerate the development cycles of infotainment technology by up to 100 times. This innovative technology leverages BlackBerry’s QNX Hypervisor software through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud, providing a virtual replication of car controls and infotainment systems for streamlined evaluation.
The virtual cockpit tool empowers Stellantis designers and engineers to recreate the “cockpit experience of a particular brand and vehicle” with minimal effort, enabling them to make real-time adjustments based on customer feedback. By virtually representing graphics, audio, touchscreen, mouse, and keyboard inputs that behave similarly to a real car, the development process is significantly expedited, reducing a task that typically takes months to a single day.
Yves Bonnefont, Chief Software Officer at Stellantis, emphasized the increasing importance of software in vehicles and highlighted how the virtual cockpit technology revolutionizes the development and validation process. The tool facilitates a customer-first approach with faster development cycles, quicker feedback loops, and more efficient delivery of technology.
The collaboration with BlackBerry’s QNX Hypervisor and AWS marks a significant leap toward innovation and efficiency in the automotive industry. Stellantis aims to bring customer-centric innovation to the forefront by harnessing the capabilities of virtual cockpit technology.
BlackBerry QNX announced a non-branded demonstration of the QNX Hypervisor at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The software platform is already available on the cloud as an early access release, with general availability details set to be announced later in 2024. The introduction of the virtual cockpit underlines Stellantis’ commitment to embracing advanced technologies for the benefit of both its development processes and end customers.
