Volvo’s Upcoming ES90: The Electrifying Successor to S90 Sedan

Anticipated Arrival in 2025 as Volvo Ventures Further into Electric Territory

Volvo is diligently working on its all-electric successor to the S90 sedan, tentatively named the ES90, with expectations of a 2025 debut. This new model is poised to compete with prestigious counterparts like the Audi A6, BMW i5, and Mercedes-Benz EQE. The ES90 is based on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, a foundation already utilized by the Volvo EX90 SUV and the upcoming Polestar 4.

According to reports from Autocar, Volvo plans to equip the ES90 with an impressive 111 kWh battery pack, offering configurations in both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive. This robust setup is anticipated to provide a remarkable driving range of up to 373 miles (600 km) on a single charge.

The ES90 doesn’t just excel in its electric capabilities; it boasts spacious dimensions. Leaked information suggests a length of 4,990 mm (196.5 inches), a height of 1,547 mm (60.9 inches), and a width of 1,945 mm (76.6 inches). Notably, it sports a substantial wheelbase of 3,102 mm (122.1 inches), surpassing competitors like the BMW i5, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.

Collaborative development efforts with models such as the Galaxy E8 sedan and Zeekr 007 sedan indicate Volvo’s commitment to crafting a well-rounded ES90. Despite the details being shrouded in mystery, it’s reasonable to anticipate design elements akin to the Volvo EX30 electric crossover, featuring distinctive LED headlights and eschewing the traditional front grille.

As Volvo positions itself at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation, series production of the ES90 is expected to kick off as early as May, marking another significant step in the brand’s electrification journey.
