Subaru has announced its exciting lineup for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, with the spotlight on the Subaru WRX S4 STI Sport♯ prototype. This special edition of the performance sedan is set to preview handling upgrades and is slated for a limited production run, likely to be exclusive to the Japanese market.
Accompanying the announcement is a single teaser image, focusing on the distinctive tail of the WRX S4 STI Sport♯ prototype. Derived from the Subaru WRX S4 STI Sport R EX, the flagship trim level of the WRX in Japan, the prototype showcases subtle yet significant enhancements. Notable changes include new BBS-style wheels, a slightly modified ducktail spoiler on the trunk, and black-finished WRX, S4, and Symmetrical AWD emblems, deviating from the standard chrome finish.
While specific details about exterior and interior modifications remain undisclosed, Subaru has promised that the WRX S4 STI Sport♯ will deliver “enhanced handling” and a “premium drive feel,” suggesting notable chassis upgrades. Although potential changes under the hood are not mentioned, it is likely that the special edition will retain the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine found in all versions of the JDM-Spec Subaru WRX. The display will also include three racecars – the BRZ GT300 from the Super GT championship, the Team SDA Engineering BRZ CNF Concept from the Super Taikyu Series 2023, and the WRX NBR Challenge 2024.
