The Mid-Cycle Refresh Introduces Enhanced Performance and Styling
McLaren has officially introduced the GTS as the mid-cycle refresh of its GT model, maintaining its commitment to traditional combustion power. Built on the carbon fiber MonoCell II-T monocoque architecture, the GTS showcases subtle updates in styling, an improved interior, increased power from its non-hybrid twin-turbo V8 engine, and various under-the-surface enhancements.
Compared to the GT, the GTS boasts a redesigned front bumper and taller air scoops on the rear wheel arches, aimed at optimizing engine cooling. Exterior elements, such as blades, rear fender air intakes, and mirror caps, come in standard black but can be personalized with glossy carbon-fiber material. An optional Sports Exhaust system promises a captivating “supercar soundtrack.”
Under the hood, the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine now delivers 626 hp, 14 hp more than the GT, with 465 lb-ft of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with various shifting modes. The GTS claims a faster sprint to 124 mph in 8.9 seconds, showcasing improved performance.
Performance features include intelligent adaptive suspension, large carbon-ceramic brakes, and a quicker nose-lift system. The GTS sheds 22 pounds compared to the GT, contributing to a lower center of gravity and an enhanced power-to-weight ratio. McLaren touts it as “the most practical new supercar on sale today,” retaining 420 liters of trunk space under the glass tailgate and an additional 150 liters at the front.
Inside, the GTS maintains the GT’s cabin but introduces new interior upholstery combinations and technological features. The digital instrument cluster, infotainment touchscreen, and an optional 12-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system enhance the driving experience.
The McLaren GTS, now available for order, is expected to hit global showrooms in 2024. While the specific timeline for the US market remains uncertain, enthusiasts anticipate more innovations and new releases from McLaren in the years to come.
