Pirelli secures multi-year extension as exclusive F1 tire supplier
Pirelli’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and high-performance tires secures a multi-year extension with F1, reinforcing its role as a key partner in shaping the future of motorsport.
Pirelli is set to continue its long-standing partnership with Formula 1 as the exclusive tire supplier. Following a comprehensive evaluation by the FIA of technical aspects and the F1 organization’s assessment of the commercial package, Pirelli was awarded the deal, covering the 2025-’27 seasons, with an option for an additional year in 2028. This extension encompasses a more complex tender process, involving F2 and F3 contracts and a significant focus on sustainability, aligning with F1’s Net Zero 2030 goal.
Pirelli’s involvement in F1 spans various periods, including stints in 1950-’58, 1981-’86, and 1989-’91, with the most recent tenure being exceptionally successful. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasizes the importance of Pirelli’s partnership in advancing the sport, acknowledging the company’s contributions in enhancing the racing experience and adapting to the evolving world of motorsport. Additionally, Pirelli’s presence has played a pivotal role in the sport’s growing popularity, particularly in the United States, where F1’s profile has significantly increased.
Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli’s Executive Vice-President, views F1 as an invaluable testbed for Pirelli’s tire technology, providing the company with a platform to develop and showcase high-performance, sustainable tires. As part of its commitment to sustainability, Pirelli’s F1 tires will be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council from 2024, ensuring that the materials used are sourced and managed in an environmentally responsible manner. Tronchetti Provera affirms that sustainability is a core theme in Pirelli’s entire organization, not limited to its motorsport involvement.
Pirelli’s continuous partnership with F1 enables them to address challenges posed by extreme racing conditions, push the boundaries of tire technology, and collaborate with teams and drivers to deliver top-notch performance. The company remains dedicated to being a leader in the automotive industry and sees F1 as a vital avenue for achieving this goal. With future changes in F1 regulations and evolving car designs, Pirelli is ready to face new challenges to ensure they continue providing top-quality tires that meet the demands of the sport.
